Sri Lanka is the only country in which a private medical college functions with out the medical council approval. This situation is very damaging to the standards of the medical profession and to the health care system of the county.
Hence yesterday, GMOA tried to intervene into the case filed at the supreme court by SAITM students against the Ministry of Health and many others as respondents..
Without giving the due consideration to our professional opinion which we have expressed in many occasions, Ministry has issued a letter in their favour. This has led to a settlement out side the courts. As a result the said case was not heard at the supreme court yesterday.
No PMC should be established without complying with the set standards of the SLMC. As such GMOA is not in agreement with this unilateral decision taken by the Ministry of Health.
