Since 1926, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has proudly represented Sri Lanka’s government medical officers, championing their rights and advancing the nation’s healthcare system. Today, with over 23,000 members, GMOA drives impactful advocacy, fosters innovation, and supports continuous professional growth.
President's Message
Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), representing the vast majority of doctors of all categories specialists, administrators and grade medical officers in government service, has spearheaded many milestone achievements since it’s inception in 1926. Being a trade union of professionals,
GMOA pioneered the establishment of National Wage Policy for the entire government service, All Island Service for doctors which ensured equitable distribution of doctors throughout the island and Minimum Standards of Medical Education thus safeguarding and nurturing high academic standards of medical profession, which vastly benefited the health and well-being of our fellow citizens.
Sustaining the studied and strategic approach towards issues affecting doctors and healthcare, as well as of national importance, carried out in an effective, innovative and professional manner, would enable GMOA to be at the forefront of trade union movement while maintaining a lasting positive impact on wellbeing of member medical professionals and healthcare of our fellow Sri Lankans.

Secretary's Message
Throughout its history the Government Medical Officers’ Association has always stood for safeguarding and enhancing the rights and privileges of all categories of doctors. Fostering unity between and withing categories of doctors has enabled GMOA to move as one united and formidable force in all its activities for the benefit of the membership and the health care system.
The apolitical nature and willingness to work with and garner support of all relevant personalities and organizations ensured success in all our trade union activities.
The network of Branch Unions numbering over 130 manned by our dedicated Branch Union officials ensure the flow of information, democratic process and implementation of decisions from the center towards the peripheries throughout the island effectively and efficiently.
