GMOA Demands Implementation of PDHS Transfer

The Public Service Commission (PSC), with the concurrence of the Secretary to the Health Ministry Dr. Ravindra Ruberu, has appointed Dr. Ms. S. Subasinghe as the Provincial Health Director of the Central Province. But, the previous Provincial Health Director, Dr. Ms. Shanthi Samarasinghe was refusing to leave her post, though she has been officially transferred to the North-Central Province, the GMOA said.

GMOA Media spokesman Dr. Navin de Soysa told The Island that the appointments of the key posts were done by the line ministry with the concurrence of PSC. The Secretary to the Health Ministry Dr. Ruberu had officially appointed Dr. Ms. Subasinghe as the PHD in the Central Province with effect from June 2012, but her predecessor Dr. Ms. Samarasinghe, who had been serving in the province for a long time, had refused to move.

He said the GMOA was of the view that the director must leave the province without creating unnecessary problems, because the new director had been duly appointed.

When contacted, Dr. Shanthi Samarasinghe said that she had been transferred to the North-Central province at the beginning of 2012, but she had appealed to the Ministry to retain her in the Central Province. “I have filed a case against my transfer, because I have not served the province for five years. An injustice has been caused to me. I want justice done. Even the Central Province governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa has recommended that I be allowed to remain in the province.”
