    • Representatives of GMOA ex co were at TH Batticaloa on last Friday.Another sucessful branch union meeting was held with a satisfactory participation of the membership.
    • Members in every nook and corner of the country are no more neglected or cornered.Research worksop of Kalmunai region will be held in Nindavur District Hospital on 16 th Feb.This may be the first time in the history when GMOA officers from Colombo are visiting Kalmunai area.
    • A meeting to bring their proposals to the medical service minute amendments, the grade medical officers of the GMOA are meeting tomorrow at 9 am at the OPA auditorium.All grade medical officers interested are welcome for this event.
    • GMOA membership has started to show a great interest in cultivating "a research culture" within the medical profession and to make the recently implemented research allowance a reality.The 3 rd successful workshop of this kind was conducted at wathupitiwala hospital today.The participation was commendable.
    • A new circular was issued in order to provide 98 days duty leave (for attending clinical sessions )and 14 days study leave ( before the exam) for those following DFM online course as a result of GMOA intervention.Visit ..downloads for the circular....
    • Second successful workshop conducted on 1 st Feb at Matara General Hospital with the participation of over 130 medical officers.At the end of the workshop a computer was donated for the benifit of the membership at GH Matara.
    • Hospitals governed by the western province provincial council and situated within the colombo district are on strick today. This is in order to protest. 1.Unacceptable behaviour of one of the provincial council council member by intimidating a public health medical officer at Hanwella. 2.Nonpayment of telecom bills of doctors. Hospital functions will affect from 8 am to 4 pm .
    • Gmoa executive committee participated at the branch union meeting conducted at the NHSL 520 canteen today,where many members had the chance to get their quaries clarified from the President GMOA.Similar branch union discussions will be conducted island wide in the near future.
    •   With the view of promoting research and facilitating the members to claim the newly introduced research allowance the 1 st of a series of workshops was conducted at LRH on 23 rd January with the participation of more than 100 medical officers. To arrange the next workshop at your branch contact Dr Rajeev at the GMOA office.
    • Ministry higher officials seems to be much more interested in offering irregular transfers to their favourtits than maintaing a transparent and an acceptable transfer scheme.In response to refusal to revert an irregular transfer by the ministry,GMOA Threated to withdraw from transfer boards at the Ministry of health.This is just to show that the gmoa is vigilant on these issues.Members should not hold the openion that withdrawal of GMOA will open more room for further irregularities at the transfer boards as it had been the norm in the past..We promise to maintain the achieved transparency and good governance at the transfer boards, further.
    • There will be a special General Committee meeting sheduled to be held on 12 January (Thursday) 2012 from 12 00 noon on wards. Participation of all branch union Presidents/secertaries to this meeting is mandatory. The issues related to SLMC,DAT allowance and Schooling issue will be the main topics in the ajenda.
    • This is the final notice! We are in the process of fascilitating the school admimission of the children of our members.Please register by filling the form available at the DOWNLOADS and hand it over to your branch secertary. The last date for for those who have failed in school admissions/2012 will be on 14/01/2012.No applicants will be entertained there after.
    • New issues seems to be comming up as it had been never before. 1.Introduction of a new post MD-exit exam. 2.Allocation of sub specialities. 3.Limitation of MD/Medicine training oppotunities. 4.Move to stop the diploma in psychiatry. 5.DFM and related issues. 6.Forcing the candidates to bear up the cost of repeat exams. 7.and many more..... A meeting to discuss these issues will be held at the Neurotrauma auditorium on 4 th January 2012 from 12 noon onwards... Your participation is a "MUST" to make this event a success !
    • A ministerial level committee appointed yesterday to make the implementaton of national language more meaningful in relation to the medical service.Please hand over all your submissions carrying all your concerns and suggestions on this regard to the GMOA office immediately!
    • The attention of the GMOA has been drawn to the issue of National Language Policy which forces the doctors who have joined the service after the date 01/07/2007 to pass a tamil language exam (It is sinhala for those,whose mother tongue is tamil) within 5 years of their service.Failing to acheive this their annual increments will be stopped).
